Talking.....

So, lately the kids have been talking A LOT!!! They have started repeating everything that is said and it is so funny. Madison talks to her baby dolls all the time and I hear things being said to them that Dave and I have said to her. For example: "You need a nap" or "Do you need a spanking?"(LOL) She has also figured out how to put them in time-out. We have a little stool that is the "time-out stool" and she and Jackson both take turns putting the babies into time out. Too funny. They also have figured out how to manipulate a babysitter pretty well too. Yesterday, a friend of mine was keeping them for me while I was in a meeting and it was time for a nap. When they were told that it was time, the response was "two minutes please". Poor Melissa couldn't resist!! She gave them two more minutes and then tried again. This time, the response was "more minutes please". Melissa was smart this time and didn't give in. Oh how kids figure things out quickly!!

Candy Corn

The kids were candy corn for Halloween. They had so much fun! They really liked their costumes, but didn't want to keep them on their heads. We went to the church "Trunk-a-Treat" event and they sat in the back of the car and helped hand out candy. It was pretty funny. After that, we came home and handed out candy to the kids that came to our house. I think they had more fun saying "Trick or Treat" to the kids that came to the door than doing anything else.

Happenings

Here's the latest on Jackson and Madison:

Jackson - He is starting to talk a lot more. We haven't necessarily been concerned, just curious as to why he hasn't been talking as much as Madison. We've come to the conclusion that (1)he's a boy which makes him slower at doing everything and (2)he doesn't have to talk because Madison does all the talking for him. However, lately, he has been putting 2 and 3 words together at a time. For example, the other day I said to him "I love you, Jackson" and he said "Love you too" just as plain as anything. Pretty cool!!! Love that boy!!

Madison - Talking is not her issue at all! She talks from the time she gets up until she goes to bed. She is so funny! You never know what she is going to say. She is a little drama queen, too! It seems like any little thing can send her into a major melt down. She is also very sweet and tender. She takes care of Jackson and her babies with all the love that you can imagine. Even with all the drama, she's pretty special!!

Love to all!!

New and Exciting News

So, here I am, behind on the blog again. I am officially putting "update blog" on my weekly to-do list. Here are the things that have happened since my last blog: I survived directing my first Vacation Bible School, the twins turned 2, Dave and I got to go on a week-long-no-kids-much-needed vacation, my sister and her husband adopted a baby girl, and Dave and I have been married for 8 years!!!

Now to elaborate on each:

Vacation Bible School: It was awesome! I had so much fun pulling it all together. We had almost 200 kids throughout the week, and about 60 workers. We also had 12 decisions made for Christ during the week. The theme was hawaiian and it was so so cute. We even had a guy build a 12 foot volcano in the chapel that was AWESOME!! My kids had a blast at their first VBS. Our Bible school was Monday - Thursday only and Jackson cried on Friday because he wanted to go back to "bi-cool". Sad and cute all at the same time. I survived the week beautifully and am looking forward to next year.

The Twins turned 2: I can hardly believe it! Time has sure gone by quickly. We had a party with all of our family and it was a ton of fun. My parent's got them a new swing set for their birthday and they love it!! It only took 4 grown men 7 hours to put it together!!! I am amazed with each passing day at how much a 2 year old really soaks up from the world. Madison is really in to playing with her babies. She is such a little mother to them and cares for their every need. Jackson is fascinated with cars and balls. He loves anything that bounces or has wheels. I love to watch their little imaginations develop.

The much needed vacation: My sister is a saint!!! Kelby and Justin kept the kids for us for a whole week. Dave and I went to Dallas and just chilled out. We went to Frisco for a day and enjoyed shopping and a Roughriders baseball game. We really just hung out and got to have a whole week of adult conversation without having to change diapers or break up any fights. I loved it. We went to a restaurant downtown that you must check out: The Old Warsaw. It was a bit on the pricy side, but totally worth it. We got to stay at the Hilton across from the Galleria thanks to a sweet deal on Hotwire.com.

The new addition: "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4. This verse makes me think of the journey that my sister Kelby and her husband Justin have been on the last year or more. They have gone through many trials and heartaches with infertility, only to be blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Makali. It's been so amazing to see the handprint of God on this entire situation. They are such great parents and I am positive that Makali is going to grow up in the love of the Lord.

Happy Anniversary: 8 YEARS!!!! Crazy, I know. I couldn't be blessed with a better husband. Dave is one of a kind. I can't think of another man that would be such a help-mate to me. He helps with the kids, helps with the house, helps with everything. I am so thankful that God allowed me to marry my best friend. I look forward to many more amazing years with him.

Well, that pretty much wraps it up. I hope you all feel updated. In a nutshell, God has been so good to us. We are so thankful for the life that he has blessed us with.

Love to all --
Karomy

I need to do better......

So....I set up this blog so that family and friends could stay informed. It would help if I would update it more often. I promise I will try to do better.

So many things have taken place since my last blog. I (Karomy) have taken a new job. I am now the Acting Children's Minister at our church. It started out that I would be in charge of Vacation Bible School (no small task) and has developed into a great part time job overseeing the Children's ministries of our church. I work 2 days a week. We have a wonderful lady watching our kids. She comes to our house and keeps them and the kids just love her. That is more comforting that you could ever imagine!!

The kids are growing and changing every day. They are really starting to talk and converse with us in english. Madison's vocabulary is quite a bit more advanced than Jackson's, but we are sure he will catch up in time. They both find great joy in showing you where their different body parts are.....eyes, nose, hair, cheeks, etc., and they have great manners for being almost 2.

Since my last blog we have experienced lots of things. We made a trip to Oklahoma to see Dave's grandparents. This was the longest trip that the kids had been on in recent days (about 6 hours one way!). They did great! Grandma and Grandpa Page hadn't seen them since they were 6 weeks old. We also celebrated mother's day. We went to visit my family in Snyder for the weekend and were back home for church on Sunday. Dave surprised me with a wonderful video that he had made that included pictures of me with the kids from the time they were born until now. Yep....I cried like a baby. It's a beautiful keepsake that I will treasure forever!! We are currently making plans for Jackson and Madison's 2nd birthday party. We've been working in the yard and finishing up lots of things on the house.

I hope everyone reading this is satisfied to be a little more up to date with the Purkeys. I will get some new pictures up soon! I promise!!! Love to all!!!

Happy Easter!!

I know I'm a little late getting this posted, but better late than never. We had a great Easter weekend. We had an egg hunt with our church at one of the local parks on Saturday. This was the first time for the kids to really get to hunt eggs and they loved it!! Then, on Sunday, we went to church and then traveled to Gran's house in Snyder. We had a great time with all of my cousins and their kids. There were several young kids there and they all had a great time playing and hunting easter eggs. Hope you enjoy the pics!!

Beautiful Weather

The weather has been so pretty here lately. We were able to enjoy an afternoon at the park. The kids had a blast! They loved to swing and slide. It's so much fun to watch them growing and learning new things. I am so thankful that they have each other to play with. Watching them interact with each other is priceless. Summer is definitely going to be fun!!

The Latest Pictures

Here are the latest pics of the kids!
Madison is a bundle of fun! I never know from day to day how she is going to make me laugh. She loves her sunglasses and her stuffed hippo, "Mrs. Hipps". She has such a tender heart and loves her brother a ton! She loves to watch Veggietales, which she refers to as "tales", and has started singing along with the theme-song. So funny!

Jackson is a sweetheart! He's usually quiet and laidback, but he has a rotten side. He likes to work puzzles and play with trucks and balls. He also loves his stuffed puppy, "Mr. Flops". He loves to give hugs and is a big fan of the Backyardigans. You should see that boy dance to music. He even likes to "play" the piano. Such a sweetie!!

A Beginning

So, I thought I would give this blog thing a try. Things are changing so much every day and I thought that this would be a wonderful way to keep family and friends informed. I know that everyone knows a lot about Dave and I but I thought I'd give you a brief run-down of each of us. I (Karomy) was born and raised in Snyder, Texas. Yep...small town girl. I graduated from Snyder High School in 1998 and moved to Abilene to attend Hardin-Simmons University. Dave was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma. His parents are in the ministry, so they moved around quite a bit during his growing up. They landed in Odessa, Texas when Dave was in the 6th grade and he graduated from Permian High School. He went on to attend Hardin-Simmons University. We met at HSU and the rest is history. We married in August of 2000 and we have 2 children. Twins!! Jackson David & Madison Margaret are the loves of our lives and will be 2 in June. We also have a dog, Murphy.

We just recently moved (8 months ago) to Plainview, Texas. Dave is the Minister of Music at First Baptist Church. I am staying at home with Jackson and Madison. I am also a Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics. We love Plainview. It is not the "city scene" that we were used to in Abilene, but the people are very sweet here and our church is wonderful.

Jackson and Madison are changing so much every day. That is the main purpose of this blog...to try and keep everyone up to date on their latest discoveries and adventures.

Hope you enjoy!!!
